Balcony Scene    Act II Scene II
[Enter Romeo Enter Juliet above]
ROMEO
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief
That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she
It is my lady. O, it is my love! 
O, that she knew she were!
JULIET
O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? 
Deny thy father and refuse thy name, 
ROMEO
I take thee at thy word. 
Henceforth I never will be Romeo. 
JULIET
What man art thou that, thus bescreened in night, 
So stumblest on my counsel ?
How camest thou hither? 
The orchard walls are high and hard to climb,
And the place death , considering who thou art, 
If any of my kinsmen find thee here. 
ROMEO 
stony limits cannot hold love out, 
And what love can do, that dares love attempt . 
Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me. 
JULIET 
If they do see thee, they will murder thee. 
ROMEO
Than twenty of their swords. Look thou but sweet, 
And I am proof against their enmity.
JULIET
 I would not for the world they saw thee here. 
ROMEO
let them find me here. 
My life were better ended by their hate 
Than death proroguèd , wanting of thy love. 
JULIET
Thou knowest the mask of night is on my face,

[ Nurse calls from within]

Act IV Scene I

JULIET O, shut the door, and when thou hast done so, 
Come weep with me, past hope, past care , past help. 
FRIAR LAWRENCE 
O Juliet, I already know thy grief. 
I hear thou must, and nothing may prorogue it, 
On Thursday next be married to this County. 
JULIET Tell me not, friar, that thou hearest of this, 
Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it. 
Do thou but call my resolution wise, 
And with this knife I’ll help it presently. 
< She shows him her knife. > 
FRIAR LAWRENCE 
Hold , daughter, I do spy a kind of hope,
If, rather than to marry County Paris, 
Thou hast the strength of will to < slay > thyself,
Then is it likely thou wilt undertake 
A thing like death to chide away this shame, 
JULIET
 O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, 
From off the battlements of any tower, 
FRIAR LAWRENCE 
Hold, then. 
Go home; give consent To marry Paris. 
Tomorrow night look that thou lie alone; 
< Holding out a vial. > 
Take thou this vial, being then in bed, 
And this distilling liquor drink thou off;

< giving Juliet the vial >

< She takes out the vial. > 
What if this mixture do not work at all? 
Shall I be married then tomorrow morning? 
 < She takes out her knife and puts it down beside her. > 
No, no, this shall forbid it. Lie thou there. 
 What if it be a poison which the Friar 
 Subtly hath ministered to have medead, 
 Lest in this marriage he should be dishonored 
 Because he married me before to Romeo? 
I fear it is. And yet methinks it should not , 
For he hath still been tried a holy man. 
 How if, when I am laid into the tomb, 
 I wake before the time that Romeo

FRIAR LAWRENCE
Romeo, come forth; come forth, thou fearful man

Father, what news? What is the Prince’s doom ?
FRIAR LAWRENCE
A gentler judgment vanished from his lips:
Not body’s death, but body’s banishment.
ROMEO
Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say “death,”
Much more than death. Do not say “banishment.”
FRIAR LAWRENCE
Here from Verona art thou banishèd.
Be patient , for the world is broad and wide.
ROMEO
There is no world without Verona walls
Calling death “banishèd,”
Thou cutt’st my head off with a golden ax
And smilest upon the stroke that murders me
FRIAR LAWRENCE
O deadly sin, O rude unthankfulness!
ROMEO
’Tis torture and not mercy. Heaven is here
Where Juliet lives, every unworthy thing may look on her,
But Romeo may not. 
Displant a town, reverse a prince’s doom,

FRIAR LAWRENCE
 O, then I see that have no ears. 
ROMEO 
How should they when that wise men have no eyes?

Arise. One knocks. Good Romeo, hide thyself.

Project

1. I want to analysis the fate of Romeo and Juliet, so I am thinking to do three or four short scene to show how they changed and what make it a fate. Act2 Scene2, Act3 Scene 5, Act5 Scene7

2. I want to also find the character role of Frair Lawrenece because he is the character full with unknown and confusions. I want to do the scene between him and Romeo and Juliet especially when he gave ideas and suggestions.

3. The last one I wan to do is how much two family heat each other and how they get peaceful, so I can also improve that people's death are worth. I want to analysis this by doing scenes which what Tubalt do and How nurse and Romeo's friend reacts to their enermy.

Inevitable Coincidence Q#2




I think this extreme tragedy between Romeo and Juliet was caused by both their situations and all characters' personalities, and I also think this tragedy cannot be avoided. The whole story happened too fast to give readers time to think why decisions were made in the story. I believe that all decisions were made to reflect who the characters are, what situation they were in and their character's fate. Because of the time period difference we cannot completely understand the situation as people who lived in that time period, but we can feel how strong characters' emotion are. This tragedy happened because of those strong emotions and the situation they were in.

Some people might say that if Friar Lawrence's plan worked, this tragedy could be avoided. However, I don't agree with it because if the enmity between Capulet and Montague still exist, they would never let Romeo and Juliet be together which meant the end of the world to them. I truly believe that if these two family force them to apart they will finally choose their own way to be together forever which is suicide. In this book, there are so much foreshadowing of suicide, and all these foreshadowing reflects Romeo and Juliet's extreme personality which caused they made suicide decision. For example, when Friar Lawrence tried to give a solution to help Juliet with the marriage between Paris and her, she showed her decision which is if she cannot be with Romeo she would rather be dead. “Do thou but call my resolution wise, And with this knife I’ll help it presently. (shows him a knife) God joined my heart and Romeo’s, thou our hands”(Act4 Scene1 54-57). Not only Juliet showed her death wish, but also Romeo showed his decision when he knew that he would be banished. “Calling death “banishment,” Thou cutt’st my head off with a golden ax And smilest upon the stroke that murders me”(Act3 Scene3 21-23). As we can see, if they cannot be together, they want to be dead, so no one can stop them anymore. Unfortunately, I cannot see any hope that Romeo and Juliet be together happy and peaceful like a fairy, and their personal belief won't be changed no matter what happens, so this tragedy cannot be avoided.

Situations can also always influence and change people's decisions and emotions, and when people under different emotions they might do things in a more extreme ways. For example, when the Tybalt came to revenge, Romeo began with a great attitude, “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee Doth much excuse the appertaining rage To such a greeting”(Act3 Scene1 33-35). However, after Tybalt killed one of his best friend Mercutio, he became too angry to make a smart decision which can avoided him to be banished, but no one can be completely calm in this situation. Another example is that when Juliet was forced to get married with Paris, she drunk potion to make others think she was dead, so she didn't have to marrie Paris, but she was not impulsive even when she heard Romeo's banishment and Tybalt's death. We can see that a extreme situation can force people to make extreme decisions especially when the person reacts so impusively and so often.

When all these characteristics and situations get together, this extreme tragedy happened, even though we do not like this kind of story, we still enjoyed the moments which showed the love between Romeo and Juliet. However, they were two extreme people in many extreme situations, and finally they went to the end. I wish that if there was only one coincidence less, the whole story would be different, but this is the destiny and this is Romeo and Juliet!

To build character by yourself!

I have been working on a scene from Romeo and Juliet for two days, and I think that we are ready to video it at this point. However I am still thinking to build my character on both blocking and line delivery. I couldn't find the right way to talk and I didn't have much movements and reactions because this play was written in old language, and we had to cut some lines to make the scene work for us. When I was staging it all in my mind was how to say the line correctly, so I was not really stage it, so I decided to do more character building and line delivery. I hope that I can make this scene more realistic.

Instead to build the character from the script, I decided to find more back ground information to help me to build the character. The first thing that I changed was my blocking because It can make a huge difference. For example, I can pray at the beginning of the scene and it will make me look like a Father, but if I am looking at newspaper It would not give the audience the information that I am the Father. Another thing I need to improve is the way I deliver my line. I was too nervous to deliver the line with character’s emotion which makes the whole scene looked so awkward and offhand. I will practice more, so I can know the script better and perform better. Once I have all lines, I can be more creative with character.

I also got some ideas from other groups. For example, I saw the four people scene, and I really like how they set the fighting scene, so I had a idea that we can fight a little in our scene which is the one between Father and Romeo. To be honest, I do think that Romeo would fight the Father in this scene because he is hopeless when he hears banishment, and the person who tells him is the Father, so he will be so angry with him. We all haven't get our final version, so we still have time to change our scene better. I am looking forward to see our final draft.

It seems to be big struggle for me in this scene, and I like it because it can improve my skills and ability. I like this scene because I can more creative with character and scene, and It is my weakness because I feel hard to understand the script in old English, but I will still try my best to do it. This is the first time I did a old English scene, so it is a challenge for me. I wish that I can improve my skills more by doing this scene, and I can understand this play more. Go John!

You don't always need to stick to the "plan"

I have finished my second silent movie this week, and I only spent four days on this silent movie. Comparing with my first silent movie I changed my work order and I added so many new ideas while we were writing the plot and doing rehearsals, and this is why I improved in this silent movie. I also learned how to choose music from girls' group because they gave me a idea when I was watching their rehearsals. Thus I have improved my skills from last year and I am enjoying creating my videos!



The first thing helped me to improve my silent movie is the change of my work order. For example, I used to writ the plot then choose the music, but this time I started to choose the music then write the plot. I think this is a good way to start a silent movie because music can give me ideas and feeling about the story line. While I am choosing the music I have so many possible scene in my mind and I can finally decide my final story line. To be honest, our first choice of the movie was a murder silent movie and it supposed to be scary. However when I was listening the music automatically change itself to a another music. I suddenly had a idea to make a comedic movie because I thought it would be funny if we suddenly changed our style during the movie. I am so happy that this plot worked so well. Another thing I improved is that I became more creative. For example, in my final production I picked up the cupcake at the end, but I didn't do it in any rehearsal. When I was out of the scene I saw the cupcake was on the ground and Jack didn't pick it up, so I decided to pick it up and leave to make this scene even more funny. Thus, even though I have all my plot I still can be as creative as I can because you never know what would happen in a scene.

This time I started with music not only because i can find a better story line, but also I learned from girls' group. I used to put only one music in a silent movie, so I don't have to change it. But this time girls' group choose to use more than one music in the scene, so they can make it more interesting. That is way I started to look for music at the beginning, and I was so lucky because I found the music so fast. It seemed like the music was there waiting for me. Using more than one music in the silent movie not only helped to make the movie more funny, but also helped me to control our pace. For example, every time when I need to change the music I know what I will do for the next music, so I don't have to worry about when I should do what. I just need to remember when I need to change the music, and the scene will go well. Thus, how to choose good music for a Silent movie is a key to make a better movie.

I am so happy that I have anther chance to make a silent movie because I didn't feel so well for my first movie; however, I do feel so well about this one. I also like girls' silent movie because they did a great job on switching music when they are doing the bingo game. I hope that you would like those movies, and I wish that I can be more creative in the future, so I can create a better performance! Go Cats!

Thinking should be always before doing


It is a so hot Monday at Cheshire Academy, and students just finished their last class.

Baron: Oh please Maokai, can we just go back to dorm. I don't want to stay outside now. It is just too hot, and also don't forget that we ruined Talon's birthday party yesterday. I don't want him to find us.

Maokai: Are you afraid of that jerk? Don't worry and let's go to Stop&Shop. I really need to buy something to drink.

Talon just gets out of his room, and he is planing to find Renger, Baron and Maokai because his was so pissed off by what they did during his eighteenth birthday party.

Baron and Maokai enter in Stop&Shop

Maokai: Yo Maokai I need to get some drinks, so please wait me somewhere.

Baron: Ok man, but you need to be quick, or we have to go back to find Renger.

Maokai: I think that he is busy now because he just started to date Janna.

Baron: Janna? What? You are kidding me. She is Talon's little sister.

Maokai: What? She is a new student here.

Baron: Then it must be his sister! We have to stop this!

Maokai: I think so! Let's go find him now!

Talon enters in Stop&Shop

Maokai: It seems like we are in trouble now!(both of them see Talon)

Baron: Let's leave before he sees us!

Maokai: Why should I leave. If he wants a fight, I will give him a unfrogettable fight!

Talon: (sees Mokai and Baron) Well, I am so "happy" to see you!

Maokai: Me too. Do you want a fight?

Talon: I don't care about what you did before. Now I only care where is that little bastard Renger. He is dating my little sister. How dare he is. He is dating my little sister.

Maokai: I don't know where he is. But I don't mind to beat you up know.

Renger enters

Renger: Hi what's up my brothers! I am having my best day ever! You won't believe me. We will go to the ....(suddenly realized that Talon is next to them). Oh! Hi Yalon. I didn't see you, sorry!

Talon: Sorry? It was the most fake sorry I've ever heard. If I see you date her one more time, guess what? I am going to kill you!

Renger: No things are not that easy! You cannot tire us apart!

Maokai: You better leave them alone or I am going to teach how to fight!

Talon: Really? Then show me what you've really got!

Talon and Maokai start fighting, and they are all extremely angry. Suddenly Talon peaks up a knif and try to stab Renger, but Maokai stops him. However, Talon's knife cuts Maokai badly.

Baron: Oh my god! Renger run away! Maokai is almost dead, I will save him!

Baron tries to save Maokai but he cannot because Talon is crazy. Suddenly Renger comes back!

Renger: I won't let Maokai die anyway! (Picks up a class bottle and keep hitting Baron's head heavily)

Baron: Renger you have to leave now, you can leave all of this to me, it's ok! But you have to be safe!

Scene ends with Maokai and Baron's death. Mr. David enters

Mr. David: I am so sorry to announce that two of our students dead in a fight. And also Renger is kicked out by school, and he should never come back around campuse. We will also lock down our campus in the future!

Death

To be honest, the word "Death" does not give me any good impression and feeling because it is unknown, and people always connect death with the worst thing they can image. For example, in this scene the banishment is the death to Romeo because his whole is only about Juliet; however, the banishment will take his love Juliet away from him forever. If it will happen to me, I would feel so hopeless, and I would choose death if I cannot save it because a good death is better than living alone without love. This word is used so many times, and I think it is a foreshadowing because they reall kill themselves at the end of the play because they think that they will lose their love. I have a strong feeling about their lines because I can feel his heart is breaking in pieces when he talks to the father about how he feels things that no one can feel.

To bring me there!


I watched Romeo + Juliet today, and I really like how the director set this movie. This movie was directed by Baz Luhrmann, and it was released in 1996 which means that it is even older than me. The director kept the most of the orginal language from the play which was written by Shakespeare, but he also changed some lines to make the movie more smooth. This movie was partial modernized which changed most of the setting. For example, they used TV to deliver some information which was not exist in Shakespeare's time. The changing of setting made the story more close to life because it looked like that it happened around our time period, and this is the one thing made me like this movie so much. Another reason why I like this movie characters building.

As we all know, the more you changes you make the harder it would be, so I have to say that this director is a geniuses. He used outfits and symbols to separate Mountegue and Capulets, and it worked well because there were so many different characters from each sides. If they are all in different styles it would be so confusing. Another setting I like is that they used so many different kinds of back ground music which were modern music, they worked so well. For example, there was a kid who did not sing along with other kids, and he always sang a different song after others were done, so it make me feel both the traditional and modern emotion. Every different performence has a different setting, but they all have one goal which is making scenes work. If the the scene works well it is a good setting.

I also like the characters' building so much because I can feel each character so real in the movie. For example, when Romeo was finding Juliet, I can see the light of hope coming out of his eyes and trying to get Juliet. Another detaile I noticed is that Fther Lawrence has a Cross tattoo on his back, but he is doing a science experiment which built this character so special because it really catch my attention. Also the blocking of characters helped to build them better. For example, when Romeo's friend was killed he was standing on the stairs, and it made people notice him and remember what he said. I consider that building characters is one of the most important thing in a performence, so I would learn from this movie and use it in my future performence. 

This movie is so different from the original play, but the story is the same, and they all bring me into the story. I wish I can learn and use skills what the director use in the movie to make my videos better and better. For example, I can do more things with stage setting and characters' development. Thus, a good movie can always make you feel like you are in the story.



In class writing

Anger is a such powerful emotion because it is the key which can open your violent door in your mind, so when you are angry you wouldn't think about the result of what you are doing. For example, when I was in the 7th grade one of my classmate stroked me three times while I was running, so I was so angry. Then I lost control of myself, and I used all my power to stroked him. The result was that his leg was broken, and my mom told me that I have to control my anger all the time, and remember thinking about things what it will cause before I do it. In my experience, I consider that someone should say sorry or go away befor anyone gets too angry, so everytime when I am feeling angry a little I would go away as quickly as possible.
